高倍时时彩鈥檚 Megan Hazelden has won WA Apprentice of the Year at the 2022 WA Training Awards.

Megan started her apprenticeship training at 高倍时时彩鈥檚 Wagerup Alumina Refinery in 2019 and progressed through the ranks to become a highly skilled mechanical fitter.

"I am stoked to have won this award. During the finalist review process, I got to know the other three shortlisted candidates really well; their apprenticeships ranged from plumber to electrician and heavy diesel mechanic. All were switched on, motivated and well deserving finalists, and when my name was called I was in total shock. I was thrilled to win and I can鈥檛 thank 高倍时时彩 enough for giving me this employment opportunity,鈥� Megan said.

Coming from a country background Megan grew up always feeling like she would like to work in a hands-on role.

鈥淲e lived out of town on a hobby farm with cars, bikes and horses around us. Dad didn鈥檛 have a son so he let my sister and I do everything a son might have. We both loved it and each of us took up a trade with 高倍时时彩 where Dad works!鈥�

Megan recently signed off her apprenticeship and was immediately offered a contract to remain as part of the maintenance team at Wagerup.

鈥淎 lot of the older guys talk about retiring soon so I joke that I鈥檝e got them covered. I really do want to thank them though, as going into what is not a traditional field for women, they have been brilliant in teaching me and making me always feel welcome,鈥� Megan said.

As for Megan鈥檚 advice to future apprentices: 鈥淒o not be afraid, try different things, ask questions and you鈥檒l find there are some terrific people here who are happy to teach you. The four years goes very fast so get stuck into it as it is well worth the outcome,鈥� Megan said.

Finalists were recognised and winners from each category were announced at the Presentation Ceremony last week at Crown Perth. State Winners will compete for the Australian Training Awards in Adelaide in November 2022.
